Frequently Asked Questions
1. Where are you located?
We’re proud to be located in Dresden, Ontario, serving the surrounding communities of Chatham-Kent, Wallaceburg, Sarnia, and London. All of our animals are raised right here on our family farm, Cedar Hedge Homestead — where we focus on ethical, regenerative farming practices.
2. What types of meat do you offer?
We specialize in grass-fed, non-GMO beef and pasture-raised chicken, available in custom packages or bulk orders (quarter, half, or whole beef). Our meats are processed locally and packaged for freshness, so you can enjoy farm-to-table quality you can trust.
3. Why buy meat directly from a local farmer?
Buying directly from the farmer means you know where your food comes from. You’re getting fresher, higher-quality meat, raised without hormones or antibiotics, while supporting local Ontario agriculture. It’s better for your health, your community, and the planet.
4. What does “grass-fed” and “pasture-raised” mean?
Our cattle spend their days grazing freely on lush Ontario pastures, eating a natural, grass-based diet. Our chickens are raised outdoors with plenty of space to scratch and forage. This results in healthier, more flavorful meat that’s rich in nutrients like Omega-3s and CLA.
5. What does “non-GMO” mean?
Non-GMO means our animals are never fed genetically modified feed. We source clean, natural grains and forage to ensure every product we sell meets the highest standard for purity and quality.
6. How do I order your farm-raised meat online?
You can order directly from our website under the “Shop” or “Order Now” tab. Simply select your items, add them to your cart, and check out securely using Stripe. We’ll confirm your order and arrange pickup or local delivery.
7. Do you offer delivery outside Dresden?
Yes! We offer local delivery across Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas. For larger orders, we may be able to coordinate delivery further across Southwestern Ontario — just contact us to discuss options.
8. How is your meat packaged?
All meat is wrapped in butcher paper ( or can be upgraded to Vacuum sealed), labeled, and flash-frozen for freshness. Our local, provincially inspected processor ensures everything meets food-safety standards while maintaining premium quality.
9. Is grass-fed beef healthier?
Yes — grass-fed beef is naturally leaner and higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and antioxidants. It also contains less unhealthy fat and more beneficial CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) than grain-fed beef.
10. When will your next batch of chickens be available?
Our chickens are seasonally raised right here in Dresden. The last batch for the year is going in Nov 11, so this is your final chance to pre-order fresh, pasture-raised chicken before next season. Quantities are limited!
11. Do you offer custom meat bundles or freezer packages?
Yes! We offer custom freezer bundles, family packs, and full or half beef options to suit your household size and budget. These are great for meal planning, saving money, and ensuring you always have local, healthy meat on hand.
12. What makes Cedar Hedge Homestead different?
We’re a small, family-run farm that believes in doing things right — no shortcuts. Our animals are raised with care, our land is managed regeneratively, and our customers are treated like family.
Our motto says it best:
“Real food. Raised with care. From our pastures to your plate.”
